Meaningful Interactions

GIF from GIPHY

EDTC300 was an elective class that I chose to take. I thought the concept of learning ways to integrate technology into a classroom and learning of various resources would be very valuable for me. I did not anticipate the connections and interactions I would be able to have with so many amazing peers during this class.

This blog post is going to discuss ways that I participated in meaningful interactions with other people both inside and outside of this class! I will use images to demonstrate the ways in which I connected to individuals. In order to keep this nice and organized, I will present this information to you by breaking up this post into three sections.

  1. Blog Interactions
  2. Slack Community
  3. Twitter Presence

Digital Literacy and Fake News

You can’t make a post about Fake News and not include a GIF of Donald Trump

Fake News is everywhere. Ever since I was in High School it has been drilled in my head that finding 3 sources for a topic means that it is most likely accurate information. At the time, I thought that it was an annoyance to have to support one piece of evidence with three seperate sources; however, now I understand that they wanted us to do this in order to understand how information online is not always accurate. My professor provided us with several sources that have a great outlook on Fake News, and she asked us to look into 3 of these sources. Here is my experience with these sources:

Digital Stalking

For the week of March 24, our class decided to digitally stalk or sleuth one another. We tried to dig up dirt on one another, or more accurately, we tried to help one another out by pointing out what information we could find on them through google. This was amazing because it allowed us to get a sense of our digital citizenship.

My Horrific Experience with Digital Citizenship

On Wednesday, March 17, my EDTC300 class discussed the importance behind understanding technology. I had thought about the importance behind this for a while and this conversation during class intensified my thoughts on this topic. I decided I would have a conversation with my 11 year old sister who is currently in Grade 5.

Online Learning Environments

This week, in my Education Technology class, the prompt we have been giving to discuss is:

“How do we leverage the affordances of our new digital culture to develop increasingly authentic, engaging, relevant, and caring learning environments for our students?”

After reading this prompt I started to reflect on my learning so far in University, and I realized that all my courses have displayed a large focus on creating positive learning environments for students; however, none of the courses have put a focus on how to accomplish this in an online setting. This week, I decided to take this prompt and conduct my own research to uncover how to foster positive learning environments online.

Twitter Thoughts

I have had a Twitter account for many years now; however, I have never used it for educational purposes. I have only ever used it as a news source and I have only ever retweeted posts and never created my own. It has officially been one week since I first started using Twitter for educational purposes and here are my thoughts:
